Anyone who wants to ride the W express in Astoria better do it this week. Just read in a Queens community newspaper (W. Queens Gazette) that MTA will run all Ws local only in Astoria as of 1/7/02. This after surveys showed the Ns were vastly overcrowded and the Ws undercrowded. Turns out the few weeks the W ran local after the N was restored post 9/11 was an experiment - during that period, the usage of the N and W was almost 50-50 (as you would expect, since they alternate in service).
