Are there any lawyers out there who can shed light on the legality (and possible consequences) of surreptitiously recording an exchange with a police officer or other official?
Officers routinely record thier contacts with civilians, more so on highway stops where video and audio is built into the car. They have been able to defend themselves and convict hundreds of people who have accued them falsly on how a situation was handled.
Seems like this is fair game, sauce for the goose is sauce for the gander. But then you also have witnesses.
I suggest that if people are going out to be arrested as test cases that you go in pairs, and that the one with the tape be a quiet observer.
