And... I though the rollsigns were phased out by the time the Orange Line opened.
I don’t have the exact date the roll signs were replaced on the Rohr cars but it was well after the first series of Bredas
were put in service after Huntington (C15) opened on 12 17 1983
Here is the chronology of opening dates;
03 27 1976 A and B Routes Red line between Farragut North (A02) Rhode Island Avenue (B04).
01 17 1977 A Route Red line from Farragut North (A02) to Dupont Circle (A03).
07 01 1977 C and D Routes Blue line between National Airport (C10) and Stadium-Armory (D08).
02 06 1978 A Route Red line from Rhode Island Avenue (B04) to Silver Spring (B08).
11 20 1978 D Route Orange line from Stadium-Armory (D08) to New Carrollton (D13).
12 01 1979 K Route Orange line from Rosslyn (C05) to Ballston (K04).
12 22 1980 G Route Blue line from Stadium-Armory (D08) to Addison Road (G03).
12 05 1981 A Route Red line from Dupont Circle (A03) to Van Ness (A06).
04 30 1983 F, L and C Routes Yellow line Gallery Place (F01) to National Airport (C10).
12 17 1983 C Routes Yellow line from National Airport (C10) to Huntington (C15).
08 25 1984 A Route Red line Van Ness (A06) to Grosvenor (A11).
06 07 1986 K Route Orange line Ballston (K04) to Vienna (K08).
09 22 1990 B Route Red line Silver Spring (B08) to Wheaton (B10) last time I saw a roll sign used.
05 11 1991 E Route Green line Gallery Place (F01) to U Street (E03).
06 15 1991 J Route Blue line King Street (C13) to Van Dorn Street (J02) service extended from National Airport (C10).
12 11 1993 E Route Green line Fort Totten (E06) to Greenbelt (E10).
12 28 1995 F Route Green line L'Enfant Plaza (F03) to Anacostia (F06).
06 29 1997 J Route Blue line Van Dorn Street (J02) to Springfield-Franconia (J03).
07 25 1998 B Route Red line Wheaton (B10) to Glenmont (B11).
09 18 1999 E Route Green line from U Street (E03) to Fort Totten (E06).
01 13 2001 F route Green line Anacostia (F06) to Branch Avenue (F11).
The last time I saw a roll sign used was when the Red line opened to Wheaton (B10) on 09 22 1990. The Wheaton sign on the Rohr cars did not have a strip map on the inside sign box like most of the other temporary terminals did.
Green was the only line to debut without rollsigns to worry about?
Yes
I thought Yellow, Green, and Orange alike were opened too late for rollsigns, or at leats in the Orange Line's case, the signs were mix, and rollsigns were on their way out.
Like I said above, the roll signs were not phased out until well after the breda’s came in to service after Huntington (C15) opened and they were long gone before any green line trains were run.
