That A&S was the flagship store of Abraham & Strauss. A&S became part of Federated and the store became a Macy's, which is still is. I'm in that store every couple of weeks and I think the elevators are automatic. Yet there is another bank across from the automatics that look like they are the original cars. I haven't paid much attention to the escalators.
To verify what I just wrote, I went back to elevatortalk and found an A&S thread. I was surprised at the initial post in the thread, because I reported that there will still operators in the elevators. That statement turned out to be not true as when I went to A&S I discovered the elevators were automatics.
