When referring to the "privates", it is commonly referred to as the NYCDOT or simply, DOT. Why then, when referring to the city bus agencies, is the STATE _governing agency_ always mentioned? We are the NYCTA, not the MTA. The unions do not negotiate with the state, they negotiate with the city.
The same would apply when discussing the LIRR, Long Island Bus, or the Bridge and Tunnel Authority. They are not classified as "MTA" when speaking of them directly, nor should the bus services of the NYCTA or MaBSTOA.
