That must be neat to see! I can only think of these for comparison [since I have not ridden the Subway... :( I have to rectify that soon. ;) ]:

During the 0800 hour, CTA seems to run about 50 tph through the Wabash side of the loop (2 tracks). Trains can be get really close to each other! And if the headways get off it can get messy.

They get about 3-4 minute headways (18 tph) out of Kimball, a two into three track stub terminal. (no ATO either) (Track Map)

The only way that I can think of to get better performance is a four track, two (inner and outer) loop terminal with two island platforms (outbound and inbound).

Two questions come to mind:
1. What kind of terminal is at the other end to handle that many trains, and
2. What is the maximum TPH (est.) that the Subway usually sees?
