Why even bother going to the IOC with an Olympics plan? Let's hold our own Olympics. We've done that with the World's Fair back in 1964, when we scoffed at the Eurocentric exposition agency. The IOC is also Eurocentric; it only gives so many Games to America because it's too big a market to ignore, but try getting the IOC to hold one of these in South America....it'd balk at the very prospects. Besides, Doctoroff really needs to change the Olympics plan; second of all, we ought to hold off a few years and throw it (with or without the IOC's sanction) in 2016 (NOT 2012!), and reserve 2012 for a World's Fair. After all, while 1964 was a disaster from a financial point of view, it was a success culturally, with many young developing nations and big American companies participated. Belgium, along with other European countries, abstained from the fair, but a private Belgian company scoffed at the government's attitude and set up a Belgian pavilion anyway - a pavilion that gave New York a taste of a certain kind of waffle.

Why should we even wait for the IOC to bless the whole thing? If they're gonna stick up their noses at us, then we should take our Olympic plan and build anyway; if nobody wants that, then, by all means, let's have a World's Fair (which is often easier to host than an Olympic festival...)

So what if countries boycott? We've already the world in the Big Apple. China has many a son and daughter in Chinatown, diplomats staff the consulates, Pakistan, Vietnam, the Caribbean, Latin America, Asia, and Europe have immigrant delegations. We can hold an Olympics on our own - WE DON'T NEED THE STINKIN' I.O.C.

That being said: the Olympics are better off in Philadelphia than in NYC. More space to move athletes around.
