Dan,Perhaps this is losing something in the translation in Baltimore but I think you have it backwards. The pinion gear (on the motor shaft)is smaller than the bull gear (on the axle). On the R-40 it takes 7.2 rotations of the motor to turn the wheel one rotation. On the R-68 it takes 5.08 rotations of the motor to turn the wheel one rotation. Hence, unless all my years at subway university have been wasted, if the motor speed is the same, and the wheel size is the same, the R-68 should be faster at top speed although due to less mechanical advantage and more weight, slower on accelleration.
