I think the storm doors slid on a track like the
regular doors.

It is a little known fact ( and not true ) that the
storm doors only opened in stormy weather, so as to
provide the passengers with some thrills and chills.
People then didn't have to be kept in a climate
controlled climate to keep from spoiling..
