Interestingly, the Mariott Marquis in Atlanta and the one at Times Square were both designed by architect John Portman, and built roughly around the same time. Portman pretty much popularized the whole mega-atrium concept for hotel design: His early prototype was the Hyatt Regency in Peachtree Center, just across the street from the Marquis. (His other famous projects include the Westin Bonaventure Hotel in Los Angeles, and the Renaissance Center in Detroit.)

He also designed a third hotel at Peachtree Center, the Westin Peachtree Plaza Hotel, which is a 76-story dark glass cylinder. It has a pair of glass express elevators that climb up the exterior of the building to the revolving restaurant on the 76th floor.

I once visited another cool revolving restaurant in New Jersey, but it was in the basement...
