I've seen many BIOSes do the "Keyboard error. Press F1 to continue..." when the keyboard's either got a bad connection, missing altogether or fried. That's last one's what happened to me when a cup of tea got dumped on my wonderful old IBM PS/2 keyboard and now I type on a mushy piece of crap.
