A puzzle:
I was once on a C train that met an A at 59th. At 42nd, the holding lights over the express track were on, presumably to hold the A for a connection with the C. Indeed, the holding lights remained on until after the C pulled out. Yet no connection was made, and nobody broke any rules. What happened?
