That will be the line I will forever associate them with; the FIRST subway line I took to my new job in lower Manhattan in 1979. I used to love to be standing at the railfan window of a s/b CC leaving Canal St, when we would pass the interlocker and switch over from A-1 to A-3, hearing AND feeling that heavy R10 sound going through the switch, the lights flashing off and on, the wheels screeching.....classic subway sights and sounds. If I coudn't get the railfan window, I used to like to sit in the little "one-seater" next to the cab. Was nice having a little seat to yourself, with no one crowding you in, or bugging you to move over when there was no room to do so. They were great cars. 8-) Responses
