It was an interesting trip, more interesting than I had thought it would be. Train arrived at TS on time, although it was missing R17 #6607 (I heard something about an axel problem). We then spent 2 hours going back and forth on the Flushing line....first to Woodside, then back to Hunts Point to relay. The switch here was not operating properly, so we had to run to Grand Central to turn around. Then back to Woodside. After a long wait because of some A/C power failure at Queensboro Plaza threatening our planned route, we were off to Main St. After a quick turn around at Main St (only 2 of the 3 tracks were open this weekend) we went back to Woodside for lunch. Everybody was joking about how many times we were stopping at Woodside. After lunch we left for for Grand Central again so we could turn around an prepare to run up the Astoria line. We went up the middle track on the Astoria, stopped at Astoria Blvd, then went to Ditmars for what must've been a record breaking turnaround (we were in Ditmars for less than 30 seconds). We then made the slow trek down the Astoria express track, stopping inside every local station to pose for the photography nuts. After arriving back at Queensboro Plaza we picked them up again and then embarked on what must've been the highlight of the day, our dash thru the 60th St tunnel. I bet we topped 60 MPH. It was loud, bouncy and everyone in the front car (R15) applauded the motorman for this rare treat of pure speed. We then had a ball watching the amused people in all the Broadway BMT stations as we headed to Whitehall St. Once we got to Whitehall we remained for about 15 minutes for even more photo opportunities. Then it was back up Broadway, thru 60th St (this return trip's speed was hampered by a hippo W in front of us). We then switched back to the Flushing Line and ran express to Woodside (again!) where the trip ended at 6:10 PM.

Some notes:

- Anyone know what happened to the R17?

- Why did so many people mistake the excursion train for a real in-service train? Every stop we made we had people getting on, assuming it was an actual in service set. Duh!

- There are 9 trains of revenue-active redbirds left at Corona. That is an official, confirmed fact.

- Some of the redbirds are sporting green tennis ball decals indicating special service for the US Open.

Can't wait for tomorrow!
