I've never seen the unit costs for MTA express service. I have the ridership numbers for all the SI express and as of April 2001, most carry around 30 passengers on average. I'll reserve my judgment until I see those costs.
As a private operation, the routes would still lose money, but they would lose a lot less of it. The X17 and X19 could probably break even and have a cookie cutter profit. Most of these routes aren't yet optimized (a bus lane would really help as well as route adjustments in Manhattan).
