I looked at the photo again and you're right, A.P. The island still widens in the block between 121st and 122nd Sts. just as in the photo. I have seen a photo of Broadway around 112th St. from 1898. It looks like a double country lane with trees covering both roadways. I always thought the islands were wider in that photo, but now I'm not sure.

Incidentally, the building on the median at 96th St. appears to have been built as a set of rest rooms. Does anyone know if there was ever any intention to use that as a station house? There is nothing to suggest it inside the station.
