But speed limits are generally lower in the city than out (so stopping distances are shorter)

There is such a thing as a "Stale Green". You *know* that sucker is going to change! I always glance over to the "Walk/Don't Walk" box. If it is still on "Walk" there ain't no way that yellow is going to drop in your face.

Out here I can take the Local road from Dickinson to Bismarck (100 miles) and NEVER see a traffic signal. (Ok, there *are* two stop signs, but no traffic signal.)

Oh Yeah, and the paved cross roads are about 20 miles apart.
