There was a plan developed around 1920 proposing an east side subway through to City Hall for Westchester commuter trains. As I recall, the intermediate stations were set up with two tracks and an island platform in each direction. The first and third trains would take the left track and the second and fourth trains would take the right track, the idea being to reduce the effect of station stops on line capacity. The subway would have been 4 tracks to Grand Central and 2 tracks to City Hall. CH would have been a loop terminal with two platform tracks, the station being half way around the loop.
