After reading about this outrageous incident,my advice is that it is imperative that you file a civilian complaint against this officer through the NYC Police Dept. Civilian Complaint Review Board.

Yes, we must be prepaired to do this. An undercover officer, once he moves toward you and makes contact, must show his badge, and upon request his identification, a photo ID with his name on it.

After this, call him by name, "Officer Jones..."

Do not wear a wrist watch.

Your companion has the tape recorder. Look at your wrist, and then ask your companion for the time.

Be perfectly respectful, the only violation that you want him to be able to write is the one on photography. So give him no opportunity to write anything else.

If he is abusive or threatening, tell him that you are well aware of the ban on photography, that you consider it unconstitutional, and that you will accept a summons from him so that you may bring the issue before a judge.
