No one has the right to seize your equipment. If that happened to me I'd file a lawsuit.
Call the news, make all the publicity you can about this. People need to wake up and smell the coffee. We must resist the police state.
A police officer needs a warrant from a court to search your property. I'd imagine that'd include personal property. Of course, thanks to stuff like the "Patriot Act", cops now have the power to use "suspicuos activity" as a reason for a search, even though you visibly did not show any threat to any other people.
If I were you I'd go see a lawyer immediately.
I cooperate with cops asking me what I'm doing, but I will not let them tell me what to do with my equipment.
