After Ballston opened, trains ran between New Carrollton and Ballston and National Airport and Stadium-Armory. But there was a time before the Yellow Line opened that 6 car trains ran between New Carrollton and National Airport, and 4 car trains ran between Ballston and Addison Road to economize on car assignment.
