BTW: to complete the "legend of the arnine," another trick was that you could rotate to full service, and handle out WITHOUT dumping. Saved a HELL of a lot of time changing ends - you could just toss your handle in on the other end and GO ... no recharge needed. Only downside of centering up is that if you had headlights, they went tails on you and if a beakie spotted you barreling through at 72nd on the express track with taillights, you were BUSTED. :)
