-Staten Island Ferry info... From a book I bought in 1995. By Theodore W. Scull (Quadrant Press ) N.Y.C. Andrew J. Barberi -- Length 310 feet,Gross tonnage 3335, can transport up to 6000 passengers. Was built by Equitable Shipyards of New Orleans.Sailed to N.Y.C. under own power. The Capt. remarked she came up the Atlantic coast like a big mud turtle.. It would just roll a little in rough sea... The sister ship Samuel I. Newhouse same specks only 1 year newer.... (Ferry ) American Legion 277 feet gross tons 2109. (Ferry ) Gov. Herbert H. Lehman same specks... J.F.K. also same specks.. The Verrazzano length 269 feet, Gross tonnage 2285...The Cornelius G. Kolff same specks......
