The Barberi class is the largest...licesened to carry 600o plus ..the Kennedy boats (1965) were the last built to carry vehicles. The Barberi was the FIRST SI ferry to break down on its maiden voyage back in 1981. I can still remember seeing it in drydock at the old Bethlehem Shipyard in Hoboken. The Barberi boats do not have traditional props, they have "cycloidal pitch" , eggbeater-like devices that allow the boat to dock without the use of slips, and can also revolve 360 degrees.
