Yes, those "E" and "F" line riders were not too keen or even thrilled to have very new and A/C'd R-46's to be replaced, albeit a short-term measure, by the then 32-year old R-10's. I recall when on an "F" line run in 1980 inside car #3155, a passenger entered the train at 47th-50th-Rockefeller Center, and his overheard comment was, "Looks like they took this train out of mothballs".

In case you're wonder, I rode the R-10's in regular service on the "E" route 20 times, while on the "F" route it was just only six times. Man, I remember one Queens-bound R-10 "E" run that was really ripping at a fast clip along Queens Boulevard, and actually racing neck-and-neck with an R-46 "N" train heading towards Woodhaven Boulevard.
