We've been down this road before:
8 R-68s weigh about 744,000 LBS. and have 3680 HP or 202 LB/HP
10 R-40 Slants weigh about 680,000 LBS. and have 4600 HP or 147 LB/HP.
This gives the R-40 A 27% Weight-Horsepower advantage over the R-68. This explains the lumbering performance of the R-68s on accelleration. However, since both have a balancing speed of 40 MPH, on level, tangent track, both should operate at the same speed.
