I was away in the Marine Corps when they did the changes. When I came back home during some leave time, I had to get to Westchester Square. And from a kid I knew that the Bx 9 was running on Eastchester Rd. at that time. I stood on the corner of Needham and Eastchester Road, for what seemed like an eternity, watching all these BX 31's go by, wondering where the hell is the Bx 9??? Thank God for a driver who saw me standing there after passing me, going to the Square, coming back to 233rd and White Plains Rd, and returning eastbound to tell me that the route number changed and he figured I was waiting for the old number to take me where I was going!
